Shipworms, creatures that eat wood, are skinny and long almost resembling a worm. In 2006 researchers found these chubby shipworms called, Lithoredo abatanica. In 2018 researchers started their journey on researching on them. Researcher ended up finding theses shipworm eat rocks! Although, other shipworms have hundredths of teeth that are invisible covering their shells the Lithoredo abatanica have a few dozen thicker, and bigger teeth used for going into limestone. From the eating of rocks the Lithoredo abatanica could actually change the course of a river someday by, eating the rocks about the river.

Helpfully, the holes the rock eating shipworms eat threw make perfect homes for snails, crabs, and small fishes. Lithoredo abatanica the rock eating creatures, who knows what a new generation of them could be eating!
